When Your Kid Has No One to Play With This Summer

You told them to go outside. They came back in ten minutes. Nobody was around.
This happens more than parents expect in summer. The neighborhood kids are at camp. The cousins live far. The one friend they have is busy. Your kid isn't antisocial. They're just stuck.
Kids need more structure around social time than we think. Left alone they don't always know how to find connection. They wait for it to come to them. When it doesn't they get loud, clingy, or checked out.
That's not a behavior problem. That's a kid who doesn't know what to do with themselves.
If your child is struggling socially this summer it might be worth looking at what's underneath. Sometimes it's anxiety. Sometimes it's a skill gap. Sometimes they just need someone to help them take the first step.
