The Weekend Before School Starts

The backpack is still in the closet. She bought it three weeks ago and hasn't touched it since. Tonight you noticed her staring at it from across the room.
She didn't say anything. Neither did you.
The gap before the start
The last weekend before school isn't summer anymore. But it's not school yet either. Kids feel that in-between space before they can name it. Some get clingy. Some pick fights. Some just go quiet in a way that's hard to read.
It's not dread exactly. It's more like bracing. The body getting ready for something the brain knows is coming.
What this weekend actually needs
Not a prep session. Not a pep talk about how great the year is going to be.
Keep Saturday normal. Whatever normal looks like in your house. Sunday, walk through the morning once so Monday doesn't feel completely foreign. Where the backpack goes. What time she needs to be up. What breakfast looks like.
That's it. Familiar beats perfect every time.
If the worry is bigger than the weekend
Some kids carry more into this transition than a weekend walkthrough can reach. If your daughter has been struggling through summer, the start of school can bring everything to the surface fast.
